Modular Containerized Electrical Substations

The substations can be monobloc or modular type. In this second case, they are made up of several moduls steel units, of transportable dimensions, joined together on site to create a single building provided with all the access points and the suddivisions in rooms, as required by reference specifications.

The advantages of these solutions are obvious:

  • Installation of the equipment to be housed in the substation and relative FAT made directly in the factory, before shipment

  • Installation of accessory systems (F&G, HVAC and lighting system) and relative FAT made in the factory, before shipment

  • Reduction of installation activities on site, saving time and consequently lower costs for transport and safety.

Thanks to the productive capacities, the know-how and the human resources at its disposal, SITAL is able to play a leadership role also in this market segment.

The SITAL offer can be limited to supplying only the Substation or extended to the complete package, including all the systems: lighting, Fire & Gas, HVAC, electrical connections etc.

The structural characteristics of the Substations can be adapted to the passive fire protection (pool fire, Jet fire e Cold spill) and explosion resistance classes dictated by the reference specifications (according to SOLAS or EN 13501 and ASCE regulations).

The assembly systems are specifically designed to make the installation of the Substations, and the interconnections between the installed systems, fast and simple.

Available structural options:

  • Secondary double-pitched roof complete with downspouts and drains
  • Floating floor
  • Stairs complete with platform and protective handrails
  • Steel supports for installing the Substation in an elevated position.
  • Painting with class C5M-H cycle, according to ISO 12944-5: 1998

Containerized Electrical Substations monobloc version

Another possibility is to make the electrical substations, even large ones, not with a modular construction method but in a single piece.

In all cases where the dimensions of the containerized electrical substation are not compatible with road transport, not even with exceptional transport, construction is carried out in a special equipped yard located near the shipping port.

Main uses and definitions of the containerized electrical substations:

  • LER (Local Equipment Room)
  • LIR (Local Instrument Room)
  • E-house
  • Containerized control room
  • Analyser shelter
  • Metering shelter
  • Containerized accomodation room
  • Etc.

Airlock system

Main accessories available

When containerized substations are complete of pressurization system of the internal environment, because they are installed in an ATEX classified dangerous area or in a particularly dusty desert or industrial environment, they are equipped with an airlock system, integrated into the substation or applied outside it.

The airlock system has the purpose of avoiding the pressure drop and minimizing the possibility of contamination between the external and the pressurized internal environment.

  • HVAC System
  • Pressurization system
  • Fire detection and suppression system
  • Passive fire protection
  • Blast resistance
  • Offshore structural features (DNV 2.7.1, BS EN 12079)
  • Lighting system
  • Equipment inserting and mechanical fixing
  • Electrical and hydraulic connections
  • Packing
  • Etc.
