Main features

The SITAL product range includes the design and construction of containers and modular substations with blast resistant features. To achieve this goal, the container structure is sized according to the resistance parameters defined by the customer’s specifications:

  • Pulse pressure, in barg or PSI

  • Duration of the impulse, in ms

The sizing is carried out using FEM calculations with dynamic loads, performed using the Ansys software. The modular containers and substations are designed based on the three damage response classes foreseen by the reference legislation:

  • Low damage response: damage to components (the container can be used, however repairs are necessary to restore the structural integrity of the same)

  • Medium damage response: extended damage to the components (the container cannot be used until the damaged parts are restored)

  • High damage response: complete destruction of the main components (the container must be replaced)

Regardless of the damage response LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH, the container structure is designed to protect the occupants’ safety from the initial explosion event.

Reference legislation:

  • ASCE 2010 “Design of Blast Resistant Building in Petrochemical Design” – Second Edition

  • API (American Petroleum Institute) RP 752/753

Main and available accessories:

  • Construction in high quality carbon steel or AISI 316L stainless steel

  • Passive fire protection according to SOLAS or EN 13501 standards

  • Certified blast resistant doors

  • Painting with class C5M-H cycle, according to ISO 12944-5: 1998

  • Intumescent paint to ensure resistance to fire under pressure and to meet the reference JET FIRE class.

  • Electric lighting system with components for safe area or ATEX certified

  • Certified blast resistant dampers

  • Motorized Fireproof dampers certified

  • Structural passages provided with certified protections for the REI class to be satisfied

  • Automatic fire detection and extinguishing system realized with components for safe area or ATEX certified

  • Cable passages protected by MCT (Multi Cable Transit)

  • HVAC system (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), made with components for safe area or ATEX certified
